In the first season of the Superclub Championship Waikato United finished second in the northern region (winning $7500) and qualified for the top eight national round, where they finished third in a one-round competition. That qualifed them for the top four playoffs, where they lost 0-1 to North Shore in a knockout match played at Seddon Park.
